IMCC has many traditions among them the 4 house groups, school prayer, athletics carnivals and IMCC day.
IMCC has 4 house groups; Dunlea, Golding, McGarry and Evans. The Green House is Dunlea, named after Fr Thomas Dunlea. During the depression he delivered food to parishioners who had to live in caves and humpies. He gave a home to homeless boys and set up an orphanage after the Sutherland Shire Council forced them out of Fr Dunlea's Presbyetry. He the was given 7 acres, as a gift, at Engine where he set up the orphanage 'Boys Town'. The Yellow House is Golding which was named after the Golding Sisters. They were members of the Womanhood Suffrage League in NSW in 1893. Along with Louisa Lawson they formed the Woman's Progressive Association which campaigned for women's equal rights within the law. The Sisters became advocates for the Welfare of Aboriginal children. The Blue House is McGarry, named after Frank McGarry who on his return form WW1 became a member of the Society of St.Vincent De Paul where he secretly visited lepers at Coats Hospital. He travelled to Alice Spring to assist FR.P.J.Moloney in establishing a mission for Aborigines. He fed, clothed aborigines by the proceeds of selling aboriginal artefacts and weapons. He was solely responsible for the welfare of 400 people. The Last of 4 house is the red house Evans named after Sr Joan Evans who spent year teaching children in Catholic Colleges across the metropolitan area. In 1991, as a missionary, she went to work in Thailand, providing assistance and milk formula to working mothers wit
Another one of IMCC's traditions is the school prayer. The words an and an interpretation of the words are below.
Dear Lord,
Help us live the Gospel values as exemplified by Irene McCormack.
This line means to live how Irene McCormack did. It also means to live by the Gospel values Jesus taught us which she exemplified by giving her life to the people of Peru. Students at the college could reflect these lines by helping those in need and being selfless as Irene McCormack was.
Assist us in recognizing injustice and finding Irene’s courage to act in the face of it.
The second line of the College Prayer is meaning to tell us to find Irene’s courage to help those who are not being treated fairly and justly. It also means that if we see anyone being treated unfairly we could help them and use Irene McCormack’s courage to act in the face of the person who is treating others unjustly. Students could reflect this incase somebody is being bullied and they see it happen they could act in the face of the injustice by protecting the person being bullied.
Give us her vision and passion to serve those in need.
The third line indicates that we should use Irene’s vision and passion to serve those in need and to help them as best as we can. It also means to use Irene’s passion in helping others and using her vision to see those who need it. Students at IMCC could reflect this line to serve those in need with passion and not grumble at 10 hours of Christian Service.
Grant us her openness and serenity to treat each day as your gift to be celebrated and shared.
The fourth line tells us to use Irene’s openness and serenity to treat teach day as a gift to be shared and celebrated so it is to be enjoyed like it might be the last day of you life. It also means to use each second and every minute to help others and to make the best days of your life and not to waste any time. It tells us to be open and serene and be glad that we’re alive. Students could reflect this line by not moaning about home work or having to do chores but be glad to have these things because not every one is lucky enough to go to school.
May we use the words of the college Motto-Prayer, Service and Justice as the guiding light for our daily lives.
The final line means to use the college Motto- Prayer, Service and Justice as a guiding light for our daily lives by living and shaping our lives with with these three words. Students could follow this line by using the word prayer by praying for others and themselves and being reliant on God. The word service could be echoed by serving God and those in need. Finally the word justice could be followed by being fair and just and helping those who are treated un justly. It is important to shape our live by these three significant words because that way we could lead fair and honorable lives.
Amen
